Designate harddrive for downloading programs

I have three hard drives in my computer. Whenever I download a program it wants to download to my C:/ hard drive. I want to keep C:/ as my boot drive only. How do I get the downloads to go to my D:/ hard drive when I download and install a program like Autodesk Maya 2014 for example? Thanks for any help! I know it has something to do with changing a registry key.

What browser? Check your browser settings. In many of them you can select the default download location.
