So I'm pretty sure this is not even an issue with the headset itself, but I'm going insane trying to solve this problem and figured one of you guys could help me out.

Basically what is happening is all my desktop/game/music audio can be heard through my mic, but it is NOT an issue with the sound leaking from the headset. My desktop audio can still be heard even when the headset splitter cable is disconnected. I hooked up my headset and removed the detachable the mic and the desktop audio can still be heard when I play back my test mic recordings. Obviously, I shouldn't be hearing my desktop music in the mic recording if there is no mic plugged in...

Even stranger, I tested with another pc using the front audio port and realtek audio drivers and still the same issue. It's driving me insane because I can't stream or use my mic without audio from my desktop competing with my voice.

I'm using a Xonar DX sound card with the latest UNi Xonar drivers installed.

Yes, stereo mix and Xonar GX mode are both disabled.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes, I am plugging it in correctly. The astro a40's have a pc splitter that divides the mic and headset connections. One connection for the mic, the other for the headphone sound. If I disconnect the headphones sound portion of the headset, but leave the mic connection plugged in and record myself speaking into the mic (with music playing on my desktop), the mic does not pick up the music playing in the background (only my voice, as it should). If I plug in both at the same time then manually remove the mic from my headset (the mic is detachable) and record the mic output, I can hear the desktop music playing clearly. Obviously I should not be hearing anything on the mic test recording if I do that, right? So I think that rules out sound leaking from the headset being the issue, I have no idea what the problem is.
