Desktop connects to network but internet fails in minutes.

Hi all. My desktop randomly stopped working well with the internet the past couple of days. I connect to the network but the internet is very slow and eventually stops all together. I know it is not a network problem as my laptop has no problems. I can't ping google.com but I can ping 8.8.8.8. with 100% failure. I've tried all the command prompts suggested in other threads and tried a lot of other things too; nothing's worked. Can anyone help me?

So your laptop and desktop are both connected with a ethernet cable directly to the router/modem? or do you have a switch in your network or is the laptop connected wirelessly?
