Desktop CPU Vs Smartphone CPU

I Always in this doubt about the working of Desktop CPU vs Smartphone CPU.
The latest phones has like 4 Gb RAM ,2.7 Ghz Quad Core
but when it comes to desktop CPU has too 4Gb RAM and 2.7 Ghz Quad Core , i know desktop cpu perform better but i dont know what is the general difference. Both have same spec but DT cpu perform better(i dont know about cache).
Please , somebody could explain,that would be help
