It's a self-built computer, I'll give you hopefully necessary details:

ISP: Utility Warehouse
Connection Type: Unsure
Router: Technicolor TG582N

MOBO: AS-Rock H81M-DGS R2.0
PSU: XFX - 550W Core Edition 80+ Bronze

OS: Windows 7, I think my drivers are up to date...I think.

Netgear N300 Mini Usb Wifi Adaptor

Hopefully that's the required information, so here's the problem.

I live in a block of flats, top floor. My room initially was a dead zone, so I bought a TP-Link wifi range extender so I could connect to our router. My phone gets 5 bars and so does my desktop, but my desktop only reaches 0.3-0.4 MBP/S, when it should be hitting 8-15ish and my phone hits around 6.

I took my desktop through to the room with the router and plugged it directly into the router via Ethernet cable. It had a burst of 8MBP/S (online speed test). Then I tested the wifi, while still plugged into the router, and it went back down to 0.3MBP/S, so I took out the adaptor, re-tested the connection with the Ethernet cable and still 0.3MBP/S. I've tested my speeds when no-one else has been connected but me, so just 1 other device, yet still 0.3MBP/S. I'm losing my stuff here guys and need some serious help. All other devices work PERFECTLY, we have multiple consoles able to play simultaneously with very little lag.

I recently moved to this flat for university, but when I was living at home and in my previous flat, this same computer experienced no issues like this.

Anyway, thanks to whoever helps me:)

For WiFi performance, this is probably your issue:
"Netgear N300 Mini Usb Wifi Adaptor"

Those little WiFi adapters are less than optimal. There is only so much antenna you can squeeze into that little tiny box.

Consider a PCI-E Wifi device, with actual antennas hanging out the back.
Or preferably, an actual ethernet cable.

Thanks for the response. However I have tried connecting an Ethernet cable from my computer to the TP Link and on a seperate occasion to the router and it still only gets 0.3MBP/S?

Connecting directly to the router with an ethernet cable, what do you get?
We work backwards from there until it fails.

Well, when I first plugged it in to the router, it got 8MBP/S. I kept the Ethernet cable in, but then plugged my adaptor in to test the Wi-Fi speed, it got 0.3MB. So I thought it was a Wi-Fi error. But when I re-tested it directly after that with the Ethernet cable, it went back down to 0.3MBP/s.

Disconnect the WiFi, reboot, and see what you get.

Disconnected the WiFi, turned the router off too. Rebooted. Waited, turned router on, logged in, same speed.
