Desktop freezes when accessing D: Drive

What could be causing this? I have a SSD for my C: drive & a 1 Tb HDD for my D: drive. OS (Windows 8.1 64-bit) is installed on my SSD while I use my D: drive for storage.

When I try and access anything on my D: drive my desktop stalls for like 15 seconds, then is responsive again. After that I can fully access my D: drive without any stalling - it just starts all over again once I reset or shutdown my computer and start it back up.

My D: drive is recognized as an ejectable device even though its an internal hard drive, so that couldn't be helping the issue. I also checked my advanced power options and made sure "Turn hard disk after" is set as Never.

Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated!

IT sounds like the HDD delay time for it to spin up. Drives that aren't active can spin down to save power, but when they're re-activated it takes a bit of time to spin up and start reading data. You can go into Power Settings in the Control Panel, under advanced plan settings set the hdd to shut off never.

As to the HDD being seen as a removable drive, you may solve that by switching it to a different SATA port. If the port it's on now is on a spearate controller (not the Intel Chipset directly) that can happen.

Is this the setting you are referring to?

I've had it set as Never and my HDD still automatically sleeps when I boot up my computer. I also went into my computer last night and moved my D: Drive to another SATA Port, but I still get a taskbar notication saying that I have a ejectable device installed - Even though I have no ejectable plugged into my computer.

Have you run diagnostics on that drive? Seagate Sea Tools supports drive manufacturers other than Seagate itself

Yeah I went into Elevated Command Prompt and ran chkdsk.exe for my D: Drive, also went into my HDD Properties and ran error checking as shown here:

Is there anything else I can do? Someone told me to run NoSleepHD but im not sure if that would really work for my situation.

Is the drive a Western Digital Green series? They have a built in feature to spin down the drive when inactive regardless of Windows settings, which could explain the behaviour you have.
