Hello everyone! This morning when I started my PC the icons on the Desktop were sorted by name. I suppose my brother accidentally click on the sort option yesterday. They get sorted by name even when I click on Refresh.
Is there a way to disable it because it's really irritating to arrange them every time I start the PC or refresh the Desktop.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hello, linex12:

At this point I'm baffled and I regret to say I've run out of ideas.

Looking at your video, I went through all the personalization options in Win 10 but I still couldn't make my PC 'duplicate' your problem. Maybe your brother can remember what he did on your computer to create this situation.

Sorry,
GreyCatz.

Greetings, linex12:

Right-click any area on the desktop and you'll get a drop-down menu. Select Sort by and you can now choose between Name, Size, Item type and Date modified. You can also select View in the menu to arrange the icons.

And lastly, you can right-click the Task bar and select Properties. This will give you a few more options to customize your icons.

Best regards,
GreyCatz.

Hello, linex12:

OK, I see. In that case, select View and remove the mark next to Auto arrange. This will allow you to arrange the icons manually, and now they will stay that way until you move them yourself.

Cheers,
GreyCatz.

OK, look, I'll try to be more expressive. everything was alright with my Desktop. The icons stayed where I place them. Until this morning. When I turned on the PC the icons were sorted by name and every time I restart the PC or click on refresh they get arranged by name again even though I've arranged them the way I want. As I said I suppose that someone has click on the sort options. And my question is:
Is there any way to "unclick" the name arrangment of the icons like I've never click on it.

OK, linex12, one last try:

Still using the drop-down menu, select View and enable Align icons to grid (and make sure Auto arrange icons is disabled). This will lock the icons in the position where you've placed them. And you can use Refresh without disrupting the grid.

Example: If you have a lot of icons that you want to arrange in the shape of a heart or a doughnut, this option will lock the icons in this position.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.

PS: Your video was greatly appreciated.

Thank you a lot for the help, anyway! Actually, I just found that it didn't keep my view settings in the file explorer and the autofill in Chrome doesn't show, too. Once I close a folder it returns to the list view. I asked my brother and he said that he even didn't know that those settings exist, so it can't be him. The clock is accurate, so I can't blame the motherboard's battery. I really don't know what to do. I'm out of ideas, too.
