All of my desktop items are stuck.. I can re-align them under the desktop menu, but for some strange reason i lost the ability to drag and drop anything.. desktop icons, any files or folders in explorer. Also my mouse tries to reinstall EVERY time i reboot. And it always fails after it cant find a certain file. The mouse works fine but im sure this has something to do with it. I downloaded the most recent version of mouseware from Logitech.. installed it.. no problems until i reboot. I have a DELL XPS 3ghz running windows XP home edition, service pack 2. Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What do you mean by "desktop menu", do you mean the start menu? Here are a couple things that may help you out... If you're looking to enable dragging and dropping on the start menu thendo the following:

R-Click Start > Properties > Hit "Customize". Select "Enable dragging and dropping". Hit OK, and OK again.

If you mean that all icons on the desktop are being automatically aligned at the left, you need to do this:

R-Click on your Desktop and go to "Arrange Icons By" and deselect "Auto Arrange"

by desktop menu I mean the "desktop". Its far deeper than the solutions you mentioned. drag and drop is enabled. and auto arrange has been deselected as well. This is some sort of glitch.

Alrighty - i didn't know your level of experience with computers so i aimed for the shallow end first - i didn't mean to offend, simply trying to help :)

I had mouse problems in the past that were solved by swapping USB ports on the mouse. A few other things i can think of are below (and i assume you're also running a system thats been checked for virus', spyware/malware etc):

- Updating the drivers via the hardware manager and not the Logitech install.
- Updating your USB drivers
- You have said "the mosue works fine" - How did you check it, in another machine? Using another mouse on your machine? Try these if you've not.

Ok ive made some progress.. MY USB drivers are up to date.. i reinstalled the mouse drivers manually and the mouse does not try to reinstall itself anymore when i reboot. But the drag n drop still isnt working. If i open windows explorer i cant drag any files.. same goes for the desktop icons

Is windows up to date with all the latets patches etc? Try running Autopatcher on your machine and seeing if that makes any difference. Maybe reinstall system drivers in the Recovery Console too?

You're right, this is very bizarre...

You can get it here: Autopatcher Website

Its a bulk install of xp updates, both critical and recomended, and comes with a selection of tweaks and tools that are very useful (PowerMenu, Windows Uptime, StartupMonitor etc).

Hope it helps :)
