Desktop icons disappeared

A desktop folder icon appeared on my desktop I tried to remove it and it wouldn’t remove then it suddenly disappeared along with most my desktop icons straight after. The icons are not only gone from my desktop but my documents as well. Is there any way to get them back?

You could try and recover the lost data using Recuva and if you want to retrieve the icons, I'd suggest you try a repair install.

You can right-click your desktop: goto VIEW, select SHOW DESKTOP ICONS.

I think there's a shortcut too. One of my 2yo kids managed to hide all my desktop icons once.. I still don't know how he did it.
