Hello,

I turn the computer it on, all beeps are as usual, HDDs start spinning, but: I am getting no video output to the screen and no USB connectivity (mouse & keyboard won't light up). I can still charge a phone through the USB ports though.

How it came about - recently one HDD failed on me so I went on and replaced it. I had to pull out two RAM sticks from an already flimsy mainboard. Replaced my HDD, rolled over some backups, used the computer for a while - all fine. Then I remembered about those two RAM sticks - put them back in and... trouble.

How would I go about investigating this ? Thanks!

Could be, I am geting USB "overcurrent detected" related to that area of the mobo. Just stumbled upon this other thread I have opened two years ago with the same problem - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2739442/froze-pretty-dead.html
The solution was the same. i now got video output; gotta take care of the USB overcurrent detected thing that still keeps the system from booting. And it usually goes away after flexing the mobo here and there :)

I'm glad that you figured out your problem! :)

I was also experienced same problem with you 3 years ago, but it's a laptop. When i plug in an USB passive hub, it suddenly turns off. I detach the battery and try to booting it tomorrow, and it works. I got windows popup saying "USB overcurrent".

Just want to sharing tho...
