Desktop, need permission to perform this action

When I try to drag things to my desktop I get this message...'You need permission to perform this action
Desktop
Shows the files, folders, program shortcuts and other items on the desktop' I've never had this message before.

well you need the administrator password .. sounds like you don't have administrator level access.

control panel / user accounts / change user account control settings .. you have to have the administrator password to edit user accounts.
