I bought this desktop from Dell about a year ago, and bought a new PSU and GPU to replace the ones that came with it. Since then, it's been working fine this past year, up until about two weeks ago, when it wouldn't power on completely. After a few days, it started working perfectly again, only to stop, then start, and once more stop working.

Problem description: After I press the power button, I hear the machinery inside whirring, and the power light comes on. A light on the back (where I plug my LAN cable) is on too, so the power is working. Various USB hubs either do or do not provide power, tested by plugging in my mouse and seeing if its tracklight came on. However, the monitor does not recognize my CPU and remains off or in power saving mode.

I've tried unplugging every USB and power cord, and plugging it back in. I've tried leaving it unplugged for a few minutes, for a few hours, overnight. No specific solution seems to work. On the occasions when it begins to completely power on again (aka the monitor recognizes the CPU and powers on), it's been nonfunctional for a few days and none of my methods have worked. I'm still not sure why it suddenly decides to function properly again, and when it does function properly, everything is perfect..for two or three days.

Has anyone faced any similar problems, or does anyone have any possible solutions to this problem?

As I was typing this up, my roommate looked over my shoulder and said to me "Your hardware isn't hard enough eh?"

My Dell desktop is acting up as well. I thought to try memory so I powered down the unit, removed memory and tried replacing 1 stick at a time. I noticed that when I unplugged the tower replaced the memory then stuck the power cord into the socket, the tower powers on by itself !! Also, all the fans in there are cranking full steam. Power supply seems obvious but I sure don't want to buy one that I won't need or be able to return. My monitor is also going into power save mode instead of seeing the CPU and the usb won't work for wireless mouse etc. Anyone seen this before /?? Help is ALWAYS appreciated.
