This is my first time building a desktop its a recent with the z170a gaming m3 a 1060, i5 6600k, and in a nzxt s340 case. I am currently not getting any power to the pc at all. Everything is plugged in but there is no light on the motherboard turning on. The outlet works and everything. Dont know what to do

That could be a lot of things.

  • Are all the cables from the power supple seated properly, particularly those between the power supplies and motherboard?
When powering up, is the connector between the button and the pin-outs in the motherboard in the right position?
Is there an I/O switch on the back of the power supply that needs to be switched to the on position?
Could you have had a "false start" when building the components, attempt to power up, and damage the board?

If you want more specific help, you could give us some guidance on what you have tried troubleshooting so far

Just to give some background, I have a nzxt s340 mid tower case with the z170a gaming m3 motherboard, the hyper 212 evo, i5 6600k, corsair rm850x, and a gigabyte 1060. Yes all the cables are good and i used the motherboard manual to figure out where evrything goes. The psu does have an I/0 switch and it was on. The only thing i felt like i messed up was installing the fan the first time and getting a thin line of thermal compound that came with the fan on the right side of the motherboard next to the cpu socket. The troubleshooting I have done was take out each connector from motherboard and psu and then put it back again, still didnt work.
