I am looking for a SSD to use as a DAS drive. My internal SSD is getting full (I don't want to upgrade the internal SSD). My question is should I get a desktop or a portable SSD. I have no use for portable, however they seem quite a bit cheaper. LaCie 2TB desktop SSD is in the thousands, whereas portable is considerably less. I would have thought portable is better since its built to withstand more shakes and bumps - yet the pricing is much cheaper. Am I missing something?

You're looking at the wrong drives.

2TB Samsung SATA III SSD is around $200, not "thousands".
