Desktop PC not good enough for gaming

My PC was originally meant for regular PC stuff like projects and other stuff. But then I had to buy a laptop and I started using that more often than my desktop. I decided to use the desktop to play games. After 2 years of using it, I realized that I needed to upgrade it. So, I recently bought a GTX 1050 2 GB to upgrade my Intel HD 5000, which drastically improved the graphics, but not as much as I expected it to. So I figured 4GB of RAM and a 3.4 GHz i3 processor weren't enough either. So what do I do to resolve this entire situation?

Sorry to hear that. I went through a similar situation myself when I first started to get into gaming. I bought entry level hardware thinking it was much better than my laptop and ended up being disappointed. That was several years ago and I have upgraded a lot since then. I'm currently running an i5 6600k 4.5ghz 16gb ddr4 and a 1080ti (I game in 4k). What kind of settings and frame rates are you hoping to achieve?
