Hello :)
Last night, my 3 year old desktop PC suddenly shutdown without warning. When it shutdown, I could hear the fans spinning, but nothing is displayed on the monitor. The lights in front of the case turned off. I unplugged my PC and tried to turn it on again, but it won't start and won't boot but still I could hear fans, and there were lights were turned on for no more than 5 seconds in the case. Normally, lights would turn on when the system is running.

This morning, right after waking up, I tried to turn on my PC again, and it ran. I was able to use it for like 10 minutes, and then it shutdown unexpectedly again. Tried to turn it on again, but still had the issue. 🙁

Hope somebody could help, and thank you in the future :)

There is two possible culprit here, your motherboard and your power supply. I would suspect your power supply is dying and sometime leaving it alone for a little while can make it work again for a short amount of time.

If your motherboard was the problem, you would probably not have been able to start your computer at all.

Culprit No. 3 might also be a failed CPU fan- turning the machine off for a bit would allow it to cool down and it will run until it heats up again... Might be worth taking the side off the machine and checking the CPU fan is working properly...

So I guess that means I would just have to buy a new power supply.

Thank you! :)

It shutdown with no warning at all, no blue/black screen. The only recent change in the computer was two weeks ago, I used a USB sound adapter since I could not use my onboard sound card.

Hmm, the onboard sound card is part of the motherboard- if that has failed then the motherboard is probably on its way out...

I thought about that too. I'm planning to buy a new system after I graduate. :)

I turned on my computer again and it ran, again for about 10 minutes (I hear fans spinning), before shutting down. I then took off the side of the case and tried to turn on the PC. It did not start and I saw the CPU fan spin for a split second.

After 5 minutes, I turned on the computer again. This time, the CPU fan did not stop and keeps on running, but still the computer won't start
