my friends desktop starts up but with no windows logo and after 5-10mins it will restart and load again. i tried going to safe mode but it will restart and go back to startup again. what's the problem with this???

Problem:
Starts and "loading green bar only with no logo" loads for 5-10minutes
Restarts after loading for 5-10minutes.
problem occurs after swtiching it on for first time after stop using for 6months.
tried entering safe mode and it goes back to first option and restarts.
tried changing BIOS and tried pressing [Detect harddrive] and press enter. but it just keep giving [detect hard drive] even though i press enter many times. it didn't seem to scan until the harddrive.

need help please reply first. thanks in advance.

If you go into the BIOS, is the hard drive seen? Try reseating the hard drive, maybe try a different cable. You can also try to reset the BIOS, unplug the wall power, take out the BIOS battery for a few seconds and try to boot again.

The last known good won't do you any um.. good, as you can't even get to loading Windows. To get the F8 options the system has to be able to get to the Windows startup which it does not.

You have a few paths here, bad cable, lose cable, bad motherboard or bad hard drive. You need to look at each one in turn. Maybe bad RAM, won't hurt to swap out for a known good stick or 2.
