Question Desktop very slow after Upgrade to windows 10 From 7

Hello
I recently upgraded my older 2012 dell desktop computer from Windows 7 to 10
everything went well initially after the upgrade as the computer was running fast and smooth, the only glitch was that “voice recorder” does not work.

now after about a week the computer is so slow it’s unpleasant to use, documents and apps take forever to load as does Firefox Or Chrome.
All the While you can hear the hard drive working and rumbling.

is there anything I should try to remedy this or should I consider the computer at the end of its useful life ?

1. Details on the parts in this system.
2. How, exactly, did you Upgrade? Sometimes an in place upgrade does not yield perfect results. Especially coming off an ancient WIn 7 install, which might have all sorts of legacy crap in it.

2012 dell inspiron 64bit with 6gb ram (i3-2120 3.3ghz)
1tb hard drive
original 7 install was replaced by the free 10 upgrade via link Readily available through a search.

might a defrag help?
