Hello guys im fairly new to tomshardware and have a question on WiFi connectivity on my desktop computer.(Sorry for my limited knowledge on the subject) and thank you in advance :).

So the back-story is im building my own desktop computer (Hooray! :bounce:),but i need clarity on a networking issue.

Hypothetically my desktop will not include a wireless pci card or wirless usb adapter and i was wondering if a shared internet connection via my laptop would be able to connect to my pc,through LAN or something. Will it work?If not please let me know if their are any other solutions to get Wifi on a desktop or i have no option, but to get a wireless pci card.

Thank You (guys please notify me if i am posting in the wrong thread)

So a desktop without a wireless pci card or usb wireless adapter can get WiFi through internet shared connection? Is basically ruled out with the exception of an Ethernet cable?

btw thanks for fast response :)

oh okay thanks that cleared things up :),but to make sure when you run the Ethernet cable between the laptop and desktop ,the laptop doesn't have to be connected to the router.Correct?

thanks

Hello Dear ,
yes it is possible and so easy.
first of I want to clear this type of topology(physical connection between them).
your lap has to connect with wi-fi ,and through Ethernet cable your laptop and Desktop has to connect.
right click on network-go to properties -change adapter setting-right click on wireless network connection - go properties -there is two tab 1)networking 2)sharing
click on sharing -check on "allow other network users to connect through this computer"
after that the ip of Local area connection will changed within another range .
now go to you Desktop -go to network setting -give the ip in range of local area connection of laptop and its gateway .
now it will be work properly .
if you have any issue let me know please.

Thank you very helpful :)
