detonator 56.55???

The 56.56/56.55 drivers are just as 'safe' as any other nV driver. The difference is nV doesn't release them on their website until they are certified, thus the delay.

There has already been many reviews of the new features of the new drivers.

Try to always go with the drivers from your Card Mfrs site, but if you want to go with the latest for a spin then most drivers will work well in like products.

I did some testing last night with the 56.56's and the 56.55's. The 56.56's seem to have the stencil shadow buffer broken. For the life of me I couldnt get it to work with Quake 3. Second there is some odd performance issues in regards to UT2004. In the areas of 25-40% worse than compared to the 56.55's.

Other than that there might be more broken in them but I will have to investigate further.

What OS are you running for the Drivers XP/ME/2K/98?

Often nV has different releases for XP vs 98. Perhaps the 56.56 doesn't play well with the XP, and thus may be the W98SE version. 56.55 may end up being the 2K/XP release.

It wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.

Checked that actually, it was made for XP. But since they are leaked there could be any number of explanations, I just dont got any right now.

Some manufacturers have them for download on there sites right now. I got 56.56 of BFGtech.com, they had them listed right up on the front page.

The Answer to why these aren't on nV's own site is because there is a UT2K4 performance bug, and nV will not be offering them on their site, despite their WHQL certification.

Read about it as part of THIS [H] review;

Check the Test Setup section for the details.

Expect the fix in "a couple of weeks".
