Device Manager Simple Question

All of my devices are working fine but i was wondering how come my device manager doesn't read the products brand correctly. For examples:
-Steelseries Rival 300 (HID-Compliant Mouse driver dated back to 2006)
-Asus VG248QE (Generic PnP Monitor driver dated back to 2006)

Because they are using generic drivers.

If it were a device which required specific drivers, then it would state that.

Even for other devices, like your Ethernet controller for example...
Mine says Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - nothing related to the actual model or anything, with a driver that dates to 2012. A less generic driver, but still provided by windows. If i wanted i could go to Realtek's website and download a more current, specific driver here. http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

But some things are so generic, like mice and keyboards, they never really get device specific drivers.

just reads a device id and sees it just runs off windows default drivers all normal

that mouse maybe under 50 different brand names as fopr as the pcb in it goes all from a factory in china all just a standard device one default windows / Microsoft driver runs it .

to follow up on this should I go to microsoft and download all the generic drivers to the most current or just leave it as it is?

Microsoft has nothing for you at all, they just provide an operating system and the most basic of drivers.

Just go to the manufacturer's website for specific drivers

If you have windows update enabled it will download any drivers you need.

Windows update does NOT, under any circumstances, update drivers.
There may be some drivers included with windows updates, but windows neither created nor procured them. Nor do they keep them up to date.

You should always always always be downloading your drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Even then, you're getting outdated drivers.

The only way to get the most current driver is to download it directly from the manufacturer of the chip itself.
