Device to convert WIFI Signal to Ethernet?

I am renting a guest house on a property. The main house has a router and gave me the WIFI code. However, I keep my laptop's WIFI adaptor off --I don't like to use WIFI.

Is there a device that I can put 15 ft away from me to pick up the main house WIFI signal and then route it to my laptop using ethernet?

Portable router? Special type?

Whether it's the WiFi on your laptop, or a bridge device, you're still 'using' WiFi.

What you're looking for is a bridge device. It will take in WiFi, and distribute an ethernet signal.
Some routers can do this.

I could not find the word bridge in the specs (below), but this device is at a shop 1 hr away from me.

Probably not. That requires an account with a Wireless ISP (WISP)

In addition, some routers can do this. Accept a WiFi signal, and output ethernet. You'll have to look around.

But I gotta ask...why not just use the WiFi built into the laptop?

I choose to avoid EMF when possible.

As EMF is literally around you 24/7 from any number of sources, I would suggest you are being a bit overly cautious. Just use your rig's wireless adapter and don't attempt to make your network connection needlessly complex. Just something to consider.

Besides which, if you're receiving an WIFI signal and converting it to Ethernet, you're STILL within range of the EMF unless you plan to put the router outside in the weather. Even then, if it's being broadcast close enough for you to receive on a device, then it's around you anyhow.

SURE.

Before built-in WIFI, people used a USB WIFI dongle. Now imaging instead of having the dongle plugged in directly to your machine, you use a long USB extension cord. But this is not recommended.

Buy a WIFI router that can be configured into CLIENT MODE, this will act as the USB dongle above, and now you can put it as far away from yourself as possible, up to 100 meters of ethernet.

I say whatever makes ya happy.

I don't know what difference that makes. If you can GET a wireless signal at your location, then the waves are there whether you are receiving and using them, or not. Putting a router far away from yourself and using the Ethernet cable, isn't going to stop the EMF waves passing beyond that location. They are there, and all around you, no matter what you use or don't use.

Devil's advocate, but the field strength reduces with the square (or cube) of distance from the antenna. Being half a meter away vs four meters is going to significantly reduce the energy. Still generally negligible in both cases.

And, if you use a cell phone, it's almost irrelevant anyhow since you're putting the source of EMF directly up to the side of your head. Nice huh?

No. Repeater just means it re-transmits. You'll still need to use the WiFi card in your PC.

I'd suggest a ~2m USB extension cable and a cheap USB WiFi dongle.

Client mode will perform as suggested. It will also still emit EMF, like your laptop. Seriously, you are achieving very little, but your proposed solution will work.
