I have a desktop PC with two monitors connected via a HDMI and a serial cable. I want to be able to switch output to monitors between the desktop PC and a laptop, preferably with the laptop functioning as a third screen (i.e. when plugged in the laptop screen is still usable).

I also have speakers and a usb mouse which also need switching between the desktop and laptop although this is not essential.

Does anybody know any equipment which will solve this problem?

Solution
KVM switches.

(Keyboard, Video, Mouse)

There are also reverse KVM switches.

Sketch out the devices, desired, connections, switching.

Then google for KVM switches or Reverse KVM switches as necessary.

Remember that you may have to purchase some additional cables to make all of the necessary connections.
