Very odd situation that I'm baffled by. Hope someone can assist.

I have a Google Wifi mesh network with everything wireless except for my Vonage phone/fax line and gaming PC. This network has been in place for a few years now.

I work from home in Texas on a company provided laptop. The laptop is has various company security measures installed, such as Arctic Wolf Agent, Cisco Secure Client/Umbrella/VPN, and Forcepoint Endpoint. The corporate address of the company that I work for is in a small town in Missouri.

Recently, I've noticed various advertising content on the other network devices tailored toward the corporate town in Missouri and the search history on my work laptop. Even my Battle.net login history is showing the login location to be the Missouri town, though I've never touched the account or a game from my work PC.

Does someone know how/why this could be? I've been working from home for this company for over a decade, but this issue is new.

Very strange indeed.

Even if you wanted to intentionally do this I can't see how you would accomplish it.

All the machines in your house are using your texas IP address and that should be your location.

The work machine is actually using your texas IP but it is hiding it from the applications on that machine using a vpn. So the applications on the machine think they are connected to the internet via your work ISP location.

For say your game machine to be able to use the work location IP it would have to somehow go over to your work machine and then pass through the vpn. Techncially if you work at it hard enough you might be able to make it happen on a windows machine. Microsoft actually trys to prevent it. In addition things like cisco vpn client has added protection that many times makes it impossible to even print on a local printer so it is not going to let any machine even think to talk to the vpn. You would very much remember your hacking that could even think to make this possible.

If you had the vpn running on your router then I could see that sometime the traffic would get on the wrong connection.

I could also see the reverse where you work machine for some reason connected without the vpn active and got a texas location. I can see no way your game machine could have used the vpn....this is extremely strange.

This: "company provided laptop."

Contact your company's IT team. Report what has been happening. There could be issues/breaches on the company side of things.

Trying to further fix the problems yourself may get you into trouble.

Closing thread to further posts.
