Question- I currently have a I5-4670K cpu. If I were to buy the Devils Canyon cpu that will be released in a few months. Would I have to buy a new motherboard? operating system?

Thanks :)

Appreciate it the feedback- but I got the worst chip to overclock with. Probably <25% of all the chips out there.
4.5ghz at 1.320v 🙁 and for 4.6ghz I got to go over 1.4xv. Blah

Ehh you definitely didn't get lucky there. Have you tried deliding? Don't know if that is something you are interested in but that will help your temps some.

This is with H100i/delidding/lapped IHS/ Cliquidpro on PCB and IHS. My temps got better. But I'm hitting my voltage wall before the thermal wall. So delidding did make a difference- but not a huge difference. The culprit is definitely the chip itself. I would say delidding/lapping was a waste of time- but it wasn't because I really learned a lot.

4.5ghz at 1.320, max core temp at 67c stable.

If Devils Canyon is compatible with the Z87 boards- I will be purchasing at least 3 and cherry pick the best one. Return/sell the worst ones.

Sounds like the plan on cherry picking If you are hitting the voltage wall there isn't alot else to do.

Yeah- I'm just saying if the I5-4690K wasn't being released this year, I'd buy 2 or 3 more I5-4670K's.

Thanks so rumor has it the best time to buy a new cpu is right when it hits the market. True/False?

Price wise, sometimes it goes the other way, depends on how good the release is, and how fast the new CPUs go out the door, sometimes the price increases!

Maybe you should at least consider, a better cooling solution?

My 3770K has not been delidded but I'm not at the mercy of ambient cooling either.

A radiator cooling solution can never take you below ambient, no matter how many radiators you have.
