When I went to check on a driver I went to devise manager & while there
I didn't see any problem flags. I did see something else which struck
me as odd. Both my modem & CPU are on the list twice. Could this be
correct or should I just delete one entry for each?

Thanks in advance

Rule #1: If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Two cpus listed is normal if you have a hyper threaded pentium.

In devmngr, view menu, choose "show hidden devices". Then look carefully:
devices w/ a "dim" icon are known as ghosts, place holders for devices
that used to be installed but are not installed right now. It's ok to
delete these ghosts (selcted it, press delete key), if you are SURE that
that device is no longer installed; removeable usb device ghosts should
not be deleted if you may plug that device in again sometime in the
future. I would FIRST try using add/remove programs to remove anything
related to the no-longer-installed device, then delete the ghost (after a
reboot) if it's still listed. most machines have lots of ghosts, and for
the most part they are harmless, tho they can reserve resources; deleting
the ghost frees up those resources for real devices.

Don't forget Rule #1!
