Vigor 2860 router and TP-link 24 port unmanaged switch. Multiple devices, pc's 3 NAS, printers etc connected via switch to router. All work fine.
Recently added a 3 year old HP Pavilion all in one pc. This is for a single purpose (cctv monitoring although by connecting to dedicated nas). This pc cannot obtain ip address when connected to switch. However it can immediately when connected to port on router.
PC uses realtek NIC, and according to HP website has latest driver, although website may be out of date.
Of course I could just leave it connected to the router, but I want to take the load off the router. To this end I have purchased a managed switch so that I can set up vlans, but have not installed this yet. In the meantime I just dont understand the situation. I have replicated this with numerous ethernet cables, and in any case they all work when connected directly to the router but not the switch.
I believe this is an issue relating to the pc or it's ethernet NIC, because 8 other devices all connect fine via the switch.
