Hi to all,

We had a strange problem today in the network. A user was to log on to the domain and it received an error with Error 711: The operation could not finish because it could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager Service in time. Please try the operation again. The problem was that "Ctrl + ALTR + Del" option box: "Log on using dial-up connection" was checked and he was trying to log on to the domain (remote access control service is disabled by us). The user told us that he hadn't clicked it so we did not understand why it was checked after he turned on the computer. Does anyone know when this box appears in that situation , that is what can cause this option appears selected?. I checked in network connections and I couldn't find a dial-up connection configured.

Best Regards and thanks in advance.

First thing, don't trust what the user said. Not sure how long you have worked in IT but many times, when someone states they did not do something, they actually have done that. And if they say "did you try this" and they say "yes", it can easy be "no, but I don't want to be bothered with it". Or "yes, but I did not really listen and and just did what seemed like the right thing to do".

Second, does simply un-checking that box work? Does it check off again after a reboot?
