Dialing my phone from my pc

I want to use my land line, but use the telephone directory from my PC. Can this be done?

You can do it but would need either a PC that already has a old fashion telephone modem, or add a USB RJ11 modem, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825134008

I use one to control my front gate that is on the phone line and it works well.
