Did I botch the cooler installation? i7/mugen 2

My i7 D0 stepping idles around 42-43'C at stock 2.66GHz. I have the Mugen2 cooler installed with the room temperature at around 78'C-80'C.

I ran prime95 for 20minutes and it hit a high of 72'C.

Is this normal?

Did I screw up the HSF installation by using a bit too much thermal paste? (I used MX2, spread a thing layer on the cpu itself and a tiny rice sized grain on the heatsink plate...maybe that was a bit too much?)

Or is this because my room temperature is a bit high?

Yea, you might of done too much paste. Bigger than a grain of rice, smaller than a small pea. Put in the middle, place cooler gently, twist just a bit and mount it, cros screwing the threads slowly.

Only you'll know if your temps are better. Does your case have a back panel? While the mobo is out cut a hole to access the back of the mobo for the HS, just have to remove the back cover.

Voltage control as in the motherboard auto-"controlling" the voltage, then yes. >_<

there is a reason why good boards costs extra when you want to OC...

Lets go ppl get on the train of using quality boards for OC, or else expect less

and the auto *** is just pure bull, please don't use...

80 degrees Celsius = 176 degrees Fahrenheit you must be just about dead ?
