So, today i tried overclocking my GPU, which is a AMD Sapphire 7950 OC w/ Boost, Model # 100352 - 3L.
Now when i was testing my GPU, i used MSI Afterburner for the overclock, and Heaven Benchmark 4.0 to do benchmarking.
Now, I got up to 1230MHz on stock voltage when i started to see random geometric shapes on Heaven. I then found out you could fix this issue by raising the Core Voltage. Now i had an issue doing this as MSI Afterburner wouldnt let me change it. No matter what i did.
I made sure "Unlock voltage control" was checked.
I went to the .cfg file did the "I confirm that overclocking my card will not be support etc etc etc
I also went to regedit and changed "Enable UPLS" to "0".
But couldn't change the voltage. I then downloaded Sapphire Trixx and found out that VDDC is apparently the same as Core voltage.
*Note* - I also downloaded GPU Tools and that program said i did not have voltage control capabilities, i did my research and this card can infact change its voltage, idk why it said that.
Now around this part get a little fuzzy coz i've been at this for literally 6 hours now.
SO i started to play around with the voltages and clocks. There was even one time when i ran the benchmark at 1240MHz Core Clock and 1300 VDDC (1.3V i believe) and it ran, GPU temps got to 71 degress though and i one ran it once. I then came to this problem, every setting even stock clocks (925 mhz) i would see the geometric patterns from when i had the clock set at 1230. I managed to fix this by restarting the computer.
So now theres no more shapes but i noticed performance is noticeable slower and choppy, to where areas where it used to be 60 fps is now 25 or so.
And ive tried to play games like Hitman: Absolution, in which it looks like a very laggy COD4 server (or atleast how it looked on consoles) where if you were to take 3 steps, you would go 500. It was almost like cheating coz the AI couldnt shoot me.
And in a racing game like Assetto Corsa, the ground would vibrate/flash and when you drive its like it 30 fps but in slow motion.
So guys seriously, did i just damage my card or is this a driver issue? I did try to run MSI and Trixx Together coz i wanted OSD of FPS and such. I also did a lot of system editing so ill just add he links of the guides i used.
So, is my card fried?
