Well i got some parts today to build my new computer.. i got case, motherboard,PSU and a harddrive.
I put them togeather and was just gonna leave them as there were untill i got my cpu, memory and ram but then
i made the mistake of #1 even turning on the computer and #2 not double checking if everything was plugged in properly. So i hit the start swtch on the case, i see a blue light at the top-right of the mobo so i'm thinking ok it's working but then i see smoke. As i quick as i could i hit the switch on the PSU and unpluged the cable. Now i'm thinking "what did i do wrong?", I go over the mobo see the burn mark and find out that the front panel USB for the case wasn't plugged in properly(I had the first 4 pins in but the others weren't).

So did i break my whole Mobo or just one USB-pin slot, theres another which i have it plugged in now, im afraid to turn the computer on again untill i get the rest of the parts.

If you have any questions just ask..

>>>do you think there is Still ANY chance of it working? All i could of done was mess up a usb pin port, which i'm not even going to be using.

Best course of action: rma the mobo & case to the dealer while they're under warranty. If you're lucky, they'll replace them. The longer you wait, the less chance you have for replacements.

I know what i did now, I forgot to put the raisers between the case and the mobo, so the mobo is for sure fried.
I have two options..

1-Take back to store dealer and ask for a different board within the same price range because i like the features better(7 days to do so)

2-Return to manufacture say it was not working correctly which is my best bet i think..(1 year warranty)

what should i do?

yes actually im going to wait untill i get the rest of my parts and if it doesn't work then i'm going to RMA it to the manufacturer. If i install the motherboard correctly this time would there be any chance that the other parts (cpu memory) would get damaged?

Ill send it back without testing it yet i geuss..

Last question do you by any chance know what these spacer type things are that came with my case?

Ok. i've done a little more thinking and was just wondering now that i know what i did wrong (started computer without motherboard seated properly) is there any chance at all that the motherboard is still working? I had it on for no more then 5 seconds, there was no memory or cpu installed when i hit the start button. so to revise
-no risers or the firbe washers were installed just screws to case( dumb i know)
-only on for 5 secs
-seen smoke which i think was from the usb not in properly
-blue light at top of mobo
so should i not even bother with it or still use this motherboard?

ohno27, no offense but I hope this comes at some cost to you... *
You haven't even gotten to the challenging part (Hardware/BIOS setup/config, OS, etc.) yet!
I dunno what you were thinking - computers are complex delicate equipment. Do you have knowledge of science, physics and electricity, basic stuff like Ohm's law...?
Anyway, your mobo is probably cooked all over if you have powered it up, installed in a case, without stand-offs.
