Did I fry my motherboard

My son was building his first pic , he plugged it in and seemed the case was buzzing with static so we plugged it out straight away is it possible that it damaged the components?

did you make sure to use motherboard standoffs in the case? (quarter inch metal spacers to make sure motherboard doesnt touch the case.)

I would double check and make sure everything is plugged in properly and try to turn it on again.

It is possible that something could have been damaged, but there really isn't any way to check other than trying to turn it on.
