Did I fry this motherboard?

I've been building PCs for a decade now, although I am by no means an expert. A friend has inherited a completely-unused 8-year old rig that was obviously meant for gaming... in 2007. (He had a roommate that got horribly framed for rape the day after he bought the PC parts, very storybook. The roommate never came back for the rig. [He's innocent, btw.])

I actually had to plug in the front panel USB and power buttons, it was that new. With the cords all over the place, I turned it on and saw the BIOS flash up, but a bad buzzing sound made me quickly shut it down. A couple cords were just barely brushing the fan blades, so I unplugged the motherboard 24-pin to get it out of the way and tucked all the cords behind the hard drive bays. This is something I always do, so I don't believe unplugging the motherboard power was an issue, I've never lost a PC before. I've also never had this particular event happen before.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to flip the rocker switch on the PSU, cutting off power entirely (obviously I didn't have it running). When I plugged in the motherboard 24-pin power, the whole thing lit up briefly, even though the plug was not seated all the way. It was just the merest flash, only about a quarter-second, because I pulled it back very fast.

When I went to start the thing up, the monitor never received a signal. Stupidly, because of the alarming motherboard flash, I realized I hadn't put the RAM in (the RAM had been inserted, but into the wrong slots). I put the RAM in correctly and started it up; still no signal.

Did I fry it? How can I find out for sure?

Solution
Try connecting a case speaker to the motherboard (http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/12-201-032-TS?$S300W$), start the board with RAMs removed and see if any beeps.
