Did I get the wrong CPU?

My motherboard says the highest I can use is Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino. I thought that is what I ordered but I just popped it in, the computer boots up but never posts and I get no video. I put the old CPU back in and it works fine. It says it's an 1800 on the chip.

Anyone know why it's doing this? My only thoughts are
a) Bad chip
b) maybe they sent a Thoroughbred 1800+ instead of a Palomino 1800+ (not sure if this would matter).

Edit: I just looked up the serial and it is a Thoroughbred. The good and bad news is that now I'm going to get an A64 rig tomorrow!
Edited by ponzu on 01/22/05 11:14 PM.

So tell me freind...
I'm dying to know. hehehe How is it that you manage to upgrade to an A64 when it was an 1800+ and supporting MOBO that you bought? Someone mess up in the order or did you just to decide to now go a little bit further with your upgrade than you had originally planned?

Inquiring minds want to know! hehehe

I had the mobo already with a Duron 950mhz. I was hoping to sqeeze a few more months out of it by going up to 1.5mhz but since that didn't work out I have surrended to impulse :p

I also just found someone who wants to trade his x800 se pci-e for my radeon 9800 pro so I may as well go ahead and get this over with.

What is your nobo's name and model? There might be an updated BIOS for yours to support TBred at your mobo's manufacturer website. Have you checked there yet?

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

It's an MSI K7T 266 Pro. I looked on their site and it says 1800+ Palomino is the highest it supports.
