Hey! thanks for reading and thanks to everyone on this site, I read a lot of helpful threads here when I first built my computer.
Long story short, I definitely electrocuted my motherboard (around the USB area if it makes a difference) but all the fans etc still spin -- if I replace the motherboard will the components [probably] still work?
Long story: I'm on an exchange year in Europe and like a crafty devil I thought I could transport my computer here by wrapping up the components in t-shirts and dispense with the case to save room (it gets worse).
This fortunately caused no problems and I've been using my computer without a case for months without incident, till today.
I was rearranging my furniture and usually (forgive me...) I give the motherboard clearance from the table by supporting it on metal tealight candles. Now I'm not a complete idiot because usually I separated the back of the board from the metal cases with paper but today I thought "do I really need the paper?? I mean really?".
As it happens, I did.
My mouse and keyboard weren't responding properly and I figured this might be the problem so without turning anything off (I don't know why!!!) I went to put a folder between the tealight and it but as I went to do so there was a spark and a crack and the devil laughed it was really dramatic.
I touched around the ports, the furthest thing away from the GPU and RAM and stuff but I have no idea if that makes any difference -- I am not so smart if the story hasn't told you that much so far.
I turned it off and on and everything seems healthy besides the screen not turning on. I guess i destroyed my motherboard right? Is that all I've damaged? I can list my build if needs be!
I know I deserve what I got but any knowledge would be really really appreciated so much!
Thanks!!
