Hello,

I have purchased a 3TB HDD a couple of months ago, and about a week ago, my motherboard died, so at the time, I wasn't unsure on what the problem was, so there was a lot of shutting on/off. I recently brought back my mobo from warranty, and it's working fine.. However, my HDD is no longer detected.. My SSD and older HDD on the other hand are.

I looked in the "System Status" in the BIOS, and only two SATA ports are detected, where as I have 3 plugged in.

HDDs are pretty expensive here, so I don't want to lose it.. but I don't want to send it in for warranty, because It contains personal files which i don't want to risk being exposed.

Specs:

Mobo: Z77A-GD65
HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA300 - 2TB, Sata3.

To be sure.. connect your 3TB drive on the power and SATA and cable of one of your working HDDs. and see if it is detected then..
If you can - perhaps also test on another PC...
If not - then it is not looking promising - you may have a dead drive.

Cheers

No luck. Is there any way to format it without it being recognized by the PC? I don't want ti physically damaged, to void warranty.. I know the magnet technique, but I don't have any magnets..

What have you got in the drive? unless you are a paedophile or terrorist .. I wouldn't worry - if you done the checks we said. warranty almost certainly wont be able fix and so will just do cursory check and then replace. They should/will do a secure deposal.

Cheers
