I recently bought Intel i5 6600 (6th gen) CPU and gigabyte Z170M mobo.
While assembling, I did not apply any thermal paste. This is the first time I'm building a PC.

Is it okay? Please let me know.

Solution
If you didn't look before you installed it, then the only way to *know*, is to take it off.
Then you need to go buy some, clean all the parts, and apply it.

It would have just been 2 or 3 grey strips on the bottom of the cooler.

Oh. As the paste was not there in the either of the boxes (cpu and mobo) I thought it is not necessary.
So now I should remove CPU, apply and remount it ?
Please post a video link which explains how to properly apply it.

What specific cooler did you install? If it is one that came with the CPU, it may have been preapplied.

Nah man! There was no paste. So I thought now the technology has advanced and these components don't need paste anymore.

I installed the stock cooler that came along with 6600's box. And there was no paste.

How to check if the heatsink came with thermal paste already applied?
Thanks for the link.

Was it "not there" or was it there and you didn't notice? as someone said.. if you bought CPU new with stock heatsink - it was probably pre-applied..
Put simply.. if it new.. di you follow the instructions? if you did .. you OK.
As for "please post a link which explains..." don't be so F'ing lazy.. google it!!!
There ere probably Intel links to videos with the CPU!!

Cheers

It was "not there". Why would I post a question before checking everything?
And I'm not <mod edit> lazy. I don't want to youtube "how to apply thermal paste and follow some 'amateurs' video which might not be safe.

The choir is right you need to apply thermal paste to protect your investment. Just a very thin coat you can see thru or you can use the pea method to apply. Don't run your computer again until you apply some thermal paste. I sell a lot of Arctic Silver 5, but there are many choices from which you can choose.

It had three grey strips at the bottom. In a circular manner. I did not know what that is. Was that the thermal paste?
