Did a computer company take advantage of me?
Recently I have been dealing with a nightmare regarding my new machine. I had a custom built computer made by a friend for $1500 (who is experienced at computer building). It was shipped to me through the post office, insured and protected, but when received it looked like someone had taken a baseball bat to it. I tried to file a claim and it failed. I took it to a repairman for appraisal who informed me the post office had gone in and meddled. He then recommended a company in town for the full repair.
The service cost over $600 and when I brought the computer home it seems things were changed. The cooling system put in by my friend didn't fit with the replaced CPU so it was replaced with a cheap fan. The original computer had all AMD parts but were replaced with Intel. The audio does not seem to work, as if it was hooked up incorrectly (headphones work but nothing else does). They said the screws that came with the case were incorrect and they used a drill for the new "proper" screws. In addition, and the worst part of this, was when I checked my grahpics using dxdiag they replaced my fully functioning ATI R9 270x with an Intel HD Graphics 4600. In addition they did not return the graphics card with the other damaged parts and former cooling system.
I am at the end of my rope, I don't know what to do. To top it off the customer service there is extremely condescending and of no help. What is the legality of replacing parts without my consent and not returning the old ones? Do I have any rights in this case? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
