Hello, so this is a weird one and I've been going through loops with Windows support all day and now they are trying to tell me it's a hardware issues (which maybe it is, but the timing is weird to me).

I have a personal build fx8350 cpu, asus 1050ti gpu, beast 750w psu, seagate 2tb hdd, gigabyte 78lmtusb3 motherboard with win 10 pro.

Everything worked great on it until the fall creators update came. When I updated to this update it caused my graphics to go crazy and psychedelic. Colors were inverted, blues/greens/reds/yellows were randomly moving about the screen... true Fear & Loathing stuff.

I reverted back to the old version and it went back to normal... with one problem. Each time I tried to use the search bar in the toolbar it would open like it's going to work but then crash after a few seconds and close. It wouldn't let me search anymore. I had 3 Microsoft techs try to help me with this and I watched them install and uninstall the same graphics drivers over and over. They tried resetting everything through command line to no avail. I could open up my task manager to the processes section and do a search and watch cortana crash, disappear from the list, then reappear after a few seconds.

Anyways, flash forward to today, 3 or so months later and I found this:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1027444/geforce-drivers/windows-10-fall-update-creator-negative-color-bug/

which is exactly the problem I was having, at least I think so. There is a great solution in there for this. I also am using a Samsung flatscreen as my monitor from probably 2015-2016 and it seems that everyone in that post is also using the same screen.

I have been wanting to wipe and reload it thinking it would fix these issues, so I spoke with customer support again (in one last ditch effort to get cortana to work) as I was backing up my data. The tech told me to wipe & reload as well so I installed win 10 download tool from microsoft and started the process. I select remove all files & apps and reinstall windows, it took about 30 minutes to reach 100% and then ever since then I don't have any graphics at all.

It's just a black screen, no cursor, & no bios menu (which really scares me because how am I supposed to do anything lol). I left it on for about 5 hours just to make sure it wouldn't come on after the install.

Please help me with the proper steps to trouble shoot!, Microsoft told me I should always see a Bios and that it's more than likely a hardware error. If this is true i need to locate it so i can replace it.

The steps I have taken are:

I restarted the computer and gave it over 1h. I can hear a POST beep.
I unplugged the computer and held the power down for 10+ seconds, then restarted.
I've tried accessing safe mode, or bios menu but can't see if it's working or not.
I have tried unplugging my hard drive to see if I could get the Bios menu to come back (I had a problem in the past where my bios options disappear for a few days during boot up but then randomly came back???)

My graphics card has 3 slots - the first one i have no clue what it is... looks like a USB slot with one corner that looks cut off (similar to how both corners slant on a HDMI). Second slot is HDMI, 3rd slot is DVI.

I do not have a DVI cable. I also am told my motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics so VGA is out.

Thank you for your help, I need my computer for work and am really worried at the moment! Thank you.

Thanks breeze ill let you know how it goes. i have a question though, how am I supposed to install via USB if I have no graphics? When I turn on the computer I just see a black screen no bios no nada

Yes you are right, sorry. This is my first build, so I guess what I mean is yes the Motherboard does have graphics inputs but I can never get a signal from them, I have to plug directly into my GPU to get a signal

As long as the graphics card is installed, it's likely you WON'T get a signal from the onboard graphics.

I guess I was under the impression that you had display until Windows started loading. My fault for not reading more closely.

If you have NO display at all, using the graphics card or the onboard graphics of the motherboard, then there has to be a hardware failure somewhere.

My guess would be the motherboard if both discreet and onboard graphics fail to work.

There are other possibilities though. What is your power supply model number?

Thank you for all the replies, I truly appreciate it. I ended up figuring it out but not after alot of piddling around, haha. I did take the gpu out, tested the mobo and it did show it was alive, I plugged back in the GPU and tried the living room tv (the only other monitor-type device I had) and it worked. I realized that on my samsung screen there is multiple hdmi connections but only the one that says "DVI" is the one that will accept a signal from my graphics card.

Maybe you know why, I have no clue speaking being it's hdmi to hdmi connection, no DVI involved, but I assume that since this screen is a few years old it probably wasn't compatible for what ever reason.

Well, thank you for helping me. I appreciate it. Take care!

Your graphics card MAY have a newer revision of HDMI that isn't supported by your monitor. I say MAY because I didn't see where you posted the exact model numbers of your monitor or graphics card. If you have multiple monitors, you may also have exceeded the maximum number of digital outputs and your DVI may be DVI-I, which is analog and does not count against the number of digital outputs. Having a newer 1000 series graphics card, it may not even be an issue, I'm not sure on that. I'd have to investigate whether this limitation has been alleviated with the newer cards or not.
