I'm looking to upgrade my current 1060 3gb to an 2070. I'm looking around finding the right one for me. But I came across something that I would like answered :)

When looking for 2070's I found these 2:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1256283/msi-geforce-rtx-2070-gaming-z-8g/specificaties/
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1256289/msi-geforce-rtx-2070-gaming-8g/specificaties/

But I'm not sure what the difference is except the price. I've been looking at the specifications and the only thing I can find is the difference between the first and second card is: Max turbo frequency with the Z having a max of 1,83Ghz and the normal one having 1,62Ghz.

My first question is: Does this only apply when overclocking?
And my second question is: If not, does it make a lot of difference? Or is it just a slight difference?

Thanks in advance for however reads this and replies!

My first question is: Does this only apply when overclocking?

No. The cards are already factory overclocked. Manual overclocking is different. You can still OC them further, if need be.

And my second question is: If not, does it make a lot of difference? Or is it just a slight difference?

It will only make a slight difference in games, but not too much. Depends on the factory overclocked value.

Thanks for the reply. Love your username btw.

I'm no overclocker and Im not planning to do so. Would the 1,83Ghz compaired to 1,62 actually make a difference?

What would be the better card?

Check my previous reply once again. I just quoted your second question as well. It will only make a slight difference in games, but not too much. Depends on the factory overclocked value. How much is the PRICE difference between these 2 Models ?

Both the cards are almost the same, and they also have the same dual FAN cooling solution.

Thanks, the difference in price varies from 50 to 100 euros (545 euros is the cheapest I can find for the none Z one, the other is at cheapest 610 euros

Both the cards are almost the same, and they also have the same dual FAN cooling solution, IMO. You need to decide whether it would be worth spending some extra cash for the Z variant, just to get some few frames/fps while Gaming.

You can also buy the normal SKU, non-Z model, and overclock it to match it's frequency same as the Z model.

Thanks for your help. I think I'll go for the none Z version then. Save some money from it to spend on other parts! ;)

One last thing, how much FPS difference are we talking about? Is that 10+ or less than 10?

I can't actually answer this question, since I'm not fully sure. The FPS difference will also depend on the game being played, and the fps increase can vary between 7-15 fps, just a rough estimate though.

Okay doesn't matter that much.

One really final question. If you would have to choose between:

https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1264301/msi-geforce-rtx-2070-gaming-x-8g.html

Which one would you choose? MSI or Gigabyte?

The Gigabyte Windforce without any doubt, if you ask me. It also having a triple fan cooling solution for the PCB. Though, just make sure any card you buy, will fit easily inside your ATX cabinet. What's the make and model number of your power supply unit ?

Do you have a compatible PSU to power this high-end RTX GPU ?

This is my current setup:
Power Supply: Sharkoon WPM Bronze 700W (https://nl.sharkoon.com/product/1681/WPMBronze)
Mobo: ASUS Prime X470-PRO
RAM: 2x 8gb DDR4
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700

In case youre wondering about the case: https://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImage/11-119-343-V01.jpg:) https://www.newegg.com/global/sk-en...sterbox-td500-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811119343

Power Supply: Sharkoon WPM Bronze 700W (https://nl.sharkoon.com/product/1681/WPMBronze)

Oh no. Please do NOT use this Sharkoon PSU for the RTX GPU, or any other GPU for that matter. Sharkoon PSUs cannot be trusted, and it's best to avoid them using for a gaming PC. Sharkoon is a lower tier PSU brand, poor quality.

PSU is the last component you might want to cheap out on, or skimp. Try to get some other high quality PSU, IF possible. Power supplies are an imperative part of your system that should not be taken lightly. Throwing in a budget PSU could result in poor power efficiency or even a wrecked system. Don't SKIMP on the PSU,, since this is the MOST important PC component. I can't stress this enough.

Btw, this PSU list is NOT exhaustive, nor 100% accurate though, but at least it gives us some idea about the brand reputation, in the hierarchy list..BUT, make a note though. Despite Seasonic, XFX listed under the "arguably best brands" category by me, they have had pretty poor quality units as well. like the XT series, and SeaSonic S12II Series. There are more exceptions though...

Pretty much all PSU manufacturers sell good and bad power supplies.

PSU brands to never buy from

  • Diablotek
  • Chieftech
  • Circle
  • Sharkoon
  • Youngbear
  • Powercool
  • Rocketfish
  • Rave
  • Linkworld
  • Shuttle
  • Skyhawk
  • Foxconn
  • Wintech
  • Winpower
  • Apevia
  • Coolmax
  • Logisys
  • Sparkle
  • Raidmax
  • Zalman
  • Diablotek
  • Xilence
  • Tacens
  • iBALL
  • Zebronics.
  • Logisys.

  • Average PSU brands (Not deadly but I would avoid them)
  • NZXT
  • Enermax
  • Cougar
  • Bitfenix
Good PSU brands (These psu brands have decent-great PSUs, but also have a few outliers)
  • EVGA
  • Corsair
  • Antec
  • Cooler master
  • Be quiet!
  • Fractal Design
  • SilverStone
  • FSP.
Arguably the best brands, but that's a slight exaggeration.. :) ;)
  • Seasonic
  • XFX
  • Superflower
Conclusion
Most power supplies you buy should be fine as long as you're not pushing them to the very limits. I obviously didn't include every OEM and re-seller but I listed the main ones. Pretty much all PSU manufacturers sell good and bad power supplies, it just takes a little reviewing and forethought into your system requirements before you make a selection....

Also, Your Cooler master ATX cabinet has enough room for any high length card.

Oh man Thanks for the heads up. Ill order a new PSU along with it then!

If I buy a new modulair one, can I use the same cables or do I need to switch them?

EDIT: I dont see gigabyte in your list, But i found this psu: Gigabyte GP-B700H

I'm having a hard time finding one, if you have time, do you have a suggestion that is fairly priced (not more than 100$/€?

Check out these models. Can you afford them, and are these models available near your location? I'm just listing 550 watts, but for some extra headroom, if required for your PC, increase the wattage.
