So in this other thread people told me I can connect my VGA monitor to my new GPU either with an HDMI to VGA converter or a DVI-d to VGA converter. Will either one produce a different end image or will they both be the same since the end port is a VGA?I just want to know if I should go buy the HDMI one tomorrow so I can try out my GPU since all the DVI-d converters will take at least 4 days for delivery.

My resolution is 1600x900 and I just wonder if the screen image will still be the same as it was with the old GPU which connect through a dvi-i adapter.

Solution
Either converter should work if they are advertised as "active" converters because modern GPUs do not support any kind of analog out. HDMI is the same as single-link DVI-D plus audio so can be converted with a simple passive pin-to-pin adapter, meaning there is no reason for the quality to differ.

However image quality can differ greatly between brands and models, as the analog signal has to be generated in the active converter itself, and keep in mind the circuitry in a $20 device can hardly be expected to be as good as an old DVI-I or VGA GPU which sold for hundreds.

I'd suggest buying from someplace where you can easily return it if you are dissatisfied.
