Please, as per Sandybridge-e architecture you don't need to go above DDR3 1866mhz memories, you WON'T have any gains.

Aim this Memory List from Newegg

These are low-voltage memories, it healthier for your CPU, and yes, 8x4 or 4x4 = basically same performance, since you won't fill all the memory with basic applications
