[SOLVED] Difference between Corsair Vengeance RAM models

Hi, I've just bought some RAM thinking it would be compatible with my MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate mobo. However, upon double checking the mobo compatability list on here https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z87-G41-PC-Mate#support-mem-0 it seems that the RAM I just bought isn't on there.

For clarity I have purchased: Corsair CML16GX3M2A1600C9. It seems that on the MSI support list there is a very similar model, the only difference being that it ends in C10 instead. Searching Google hasn't found me an answer as to what the actual difference is, and whether I will be able to use the one I bought!

I appreciate any help in advance. If it doesn't work, I may still have time to cancel the order.

Solution
The QVLs are rarely fully up to date, basically RAM modules are released so frequently that it's nigh on impossible for MB vendors to test every model and update the QVL to keep up. It should work fine I'd suspect.

The only difference by the looks of it based on your post is CAS Latency. CL9 is technically better than CL10. It is just referring to how many clock cycles are required for data to be available after request.

When it comes to RAM, generally speaking if you stick to a reputable manufacturer for RAM and MB, it will tend to work fine.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like they're both configured to work at 1.5v, 1600MHz so I think I'll go ahead and hope for the best.

I highly suspect they'll work fine. Put it this way I'd be shocked if it didn't. It's more likely the QVL is just not completely updated to reflect all major modules on the market.

All I would add is it may not work if you are buying this as an additional module and will be mixing modules.

It's a used rig I bought, it currently has two unmatching RAM sticks in there, one 4GB one 2GB not entirely sure of models as I've not opened it up yet. I was planning to take them out and just have my two matching Corsair sticks for 16GB RAM - more than enough for what I need (occasional gaming and some low-demand virtual machines).

Thanks again for the help.

Just to clarify, 2 corsairs (even if they are the same model) are still mixing RAM modules, manufacturers only guarantee compatibility in the form sold - I.e. from the same pack. Anything else are not guaranteed to work together.

You should be fine, just clarifying. and no problem, glad we could help!

Just remember to select a best answer once you are happy!
