I'm just wondering if there is a difference between the two because since DVI-I carries analog as well as digital it should carry audio just like HDMI does. Is their any real difference between the two? Thanks.

Solution

The electrical interface between Single-Link DVI-D and HDMI is identical. The logical interface for the DDC is also identical. The logical interface for HDMI's data transport is a superset of Single-Link DVI-D.

Dual-Link DVI-D has twice as many TMDS pairs as Single-Link DVI-D and HDMI.

DVI-I (both Single and Dual link) has additional pinouts for analogue signalling that is electrically identical to VGA.
