3770k is a LGA1155 socket, the 4770k is a LGA1150 socket. The 4770k is based off the newest Haswell platform that many reguard as more for mobile purposes, such as lower heat and power consumption. Long story short, newer and different socket, although if intel follows their tick tock cycle there will be another release of a of LGA1150 socket chip in a year or two.

Well there is quite a difference 3770 is a Ivvy Bridge CPU which goes into LGA 1155 interface same as 2xxx Sandy Bride CPU used to go into. But 4770 is a Haswell which goes into LGA 1150. (Both CPU's require differ type of motherboards).

4770 being the next gen is faster than 3770 on clock to clock basis about 5-10%. And with every new generation they add quite some institution sets which make newer processors faster in taskes like Media Decoding,Cryptography,Encrypting etc.
