Difference Between I7 Computers

What is the difference between an i7 -2.7GHz 2620M 8GB of RAM and a I7-QUAD 2.2 2ND GEN 2720QM 8GB of RAM?

Is the 2nd gen really that much quicker or will their not be much of a diff in speeds?

The i7-2620m is a 2nd gen also so the main difference, aside from clockspeed, is that the M is a dual core and the QM is a quad core.

In my limited knowledge I have always heard that the higher the number the faster it is. So with one being 2.2 and the other 2.7 in my limited knowledge...
