Difference between standard VGA and DVI inputs?

What exactly are the differences between the two and what are the advantages for each/which is better and why? Is DVI higher quality, should I be thinking about my Graphics card having a DVI connector in the future??

My sig's faster than yours, and it overclocks better too....
