Hey there, i'm looking at upgrading my mobo/cpu to an Asus H81M and i was wondering how signifigant of a difference there is between the various models of it such as the -plus, -c, etc. Also, i've heard that there's a possibility the motherboard won't recognize an I5 4460 without being factory updated, is this true? Any help is appreciated. Thanks :).

Solution
The difference between models is just the rear and internal I/O connections, sometimes sizes. If it's from the same brand, there's no quality difference. And, of course, price.

About the CPU compatibility, yes. The 4460 is from Haswell Refresh and only H97 and Z97 chipsets support Haswell Refresh natively, the 80-series require BIOS update to do so.

Ahh i see, so how would i go about getting the cpu to run on that board? I'm currently using a gigabyte ga-78lmt s2p with an fx-4100, and have never replaced my mobo so i'm rather clueless as to what to do.

Asus.com may have the info you seek. Somewhere I hear you need bios version 5.02 or later for Intel refresh but am not absolutely sure. It is possible the latest batch, depending who vendor you get this from already have the latest bios on it. If you are dead set getting the H81, just get it from somewhere reputable, like SOLD BY Amazon, and if doesn't work, just return it and you only lost shipping.
