Difference btn raid 1 and raid5?

In RAID1 HDDs are mirrored, meaning two (or more) drives each store exactly the same data, at the same time. The storage capacity is equal to one HDD.

In RAID5, three or more discs are striped with parity, you lose the storage capacity of one HDD, and this protects against losing one drive... lose two and you're in trouble. (use RAID6 to protect against losing two)
